The Month of Peridot

Happy August! Can you believe how fast time flies when life is good? Since it’s nearly smack dab in the middle of this beautiful month, it’s time we stop to have our first birthstone discussion. What’s the August birthstone, you ask? Why, it’s Peridot!

Peridot is that crazy, vibrant, beautiful lime green stone you may have spotted around some gem shop or another. It’s strangely one of only a few gemstones that exists in just one color. Pretty cool, huh? It’s also believed (by many believers) to instill power and influence in anyone who beholds it. It’ll help you lead the way! For an added bonus, it’s thought to have the ability to bring any wearer/carrier magical powers and protection against nightmares. Sold yet?

The Egyptians called this beauty the “gem of the sun” - a bright light shining above all darkness. More generally, though, green is the color of nature, fertility, well being - of life itself! It’s the color of balance, of learning, growth and harmony. Could it have any more wonderful qualities?! Of course it remains true that it’s the belief in this kind of magic that makes it true - all it takes is a little trust and focus.

Wondering if and when you might need a little peridot in your life? Well, you can of course always have it around just for fun or because the color is pleasing to you. But there also might be a larger reason it’s pleasing to you! For instance...

• You’re feeling a bit out of balance. Peridot is a very grounding stone and can help you feel more mentally and/or physically stable and secure.
• You feel a need for some manner of change or growth in your life. This can be said of nearly any gemstone, but why not add it to this list?

One of the simplest ways to allow Peridot to bring harmony and beauty into your life is to wear a lovely Peridot gemstone ring or a pendant. I’d recommend buying a piece to wear at the level of the heart chakra or solar plexus chakra (just below the heart) - the two areas that carry its warmth and light most readily. You can also help keep your Peridot jewels charged by wearing them outdoors underneath the sun. This gem needs lots of light in order to truly shine.
